Weekly Written Analysis 5-1

The artifact chosen for this assignment is Vibe Magazine.  This magazine is full of pop culture, from actors and entertainment news to restaurants and the latest fashions.  Im quite sure the majority of my young fellow classmates have taken a look at this magazine and have read some of the amazing stories featured in the magazine.  This magazine has been among the people since 1993 which it was founded my the legendary Quincy Jones.  The main focus for this magazine is to grasp the attention of the young urban hip hop culture.  This magazine focus generally on that gender of people.  Therefore, it has become one of the most popular magazine in the hip hop industry it competition is The Source, and XXL. The two of the those magazines focus on a different range of viewers and that is why they currently fall behind the Vibe magazine.

Weekly Written Analysis Assignment 4-1

The Popular Culture artifact of my choice this week will be a book. This book is called “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert T. Kiyosaki. The reason I chose this book is because I have been reading it for a week and know that I am finish I would like to share some things that the author shared with me. The first thing that Kiyosaki argues is that the Poor and Middle Class do not teach their children the same things about money as the Rich do.
There are six lesson that he refers to in this book and they are as follow: Lesson One- The Rich Don’t Work for Money and what he means by that is rich people find a way to make their money work for them he states that money is an illusion and when people overcome the fear of not having or losing money they can began to learn how money works. Lesson Two- Why Teach Financial Literacy? This is the most important lesson of them all and the reason is if you have little knowledge about finances then you will never reap the benefits that the rich do and it is simply because they know the difference between an asset and a liability. So they become rich by allowing their asset to accumulate a monthly income. Lesson Three-Mind your own Business and what he means by that is Financial struggle is often directly the result of people working all their life for someone eles. (Kiyosaki, 2000) Many people have nothing at the end of their working days. Your business revolves around your asset column, as opposed to your income column. (Kiyosaki, 2000) The rich focus on their assets columns while everyone eles focuses on their income statement (Kiyosaki, 2000). Lesson Four-The History of Taxes and the Power of Corporations which tells shows you how a corporation is merely a file folder with some legal documents in it that creates a legal body without a soul. Lesson Five- The Rich Invent Money by having financial intelligence you can turn lemons into millions. Lesson Six- Work To Learn-Don’t Work For Money learn how to invest, have some accounting knowledge and understanding markets.

Weekly Written Analysis 3

Music is going to be my choice of pop culture topics to elaborate on.  I have love the sound of music since I was an little girl.  I find my self loving all types of music so i keep an open mind when it comes to this subject.
My favorite type of music is Jazz, the way the sounds of instruments make on a song just gives me chills.  Music has a way of put people into different moods and jazz but me in the laid back zone .
Music is an art form whose medium is sound organized in time . Common elements of music are pitch, melody, harmony, and rhythm basically music ranges from strictly organized compositions. However, within "the arts",  music may be classified as performing art, a fine art and auditory art. But to people in many cultures, music is intertwined into their way of life. There is no noise only sound which defines music so that people can feel peace in the everyday life.
My favorite music artist would Boney James he is a saxophonist who specializes in urban jazz (which is an updated version of contemporary jazz that contains elements of hip hop).  I begin listening to his music when I was in junior high school and I have found my self head over heels for the smooth jazz sound following threw my ears.

Journal Article Analysis

The article "Faking a Sonogram": Representations of Motherhood on Sex in the City by Laura Tropp is about how the media exposes Motherhood versus the average day to day pregnant woman. The article compares the lives of the four women that star in the hit sitcom Sex in the City which are as follow: Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte.  However, Charlotte and Samantha represent the two extremes Whore/Madonna dichotomy.  Which Carrie and Miranda do not have the desire to change there lives it is as if their afraid to except change. When the fear of change can actually hinder a person in various ways. So when Miranda becomes pregnant and struggles with shifting her life far as friends and work.  Needless to say, she can not seem to grasp what is a good mother and what she feels are her limited skills in accomplishing the ways of an ideal mother.

The article is directed toward a specific audience, which would be women that struggle with Motherhood.  The reason is based on the fact not all women can adjust to Motherhood so it just gives you examples of the women who are working towards over coming the fear of Motherhood.  Describing how Miranda faked her sonogram, not feeling attached to the child, getting "outed"at work about her pregnancy clearly shows the reflection towards not bonding with Motherhood.

The article was not that challenging to read because I could relate to it.  Not the part of not adjusting to the child because I did with both of my children.  But, my best friend is a victim of postpartum depression and she killed her baby. So I have had to experience that with her not really bonding with her child.  There was a little bit of tricky words featured in the article that I actually stubbled across but, other than that it was smooth sailing. Overall, the article main point is for the women to see the difference between reality of Motherhood rather on a Television show or in real life. Also that women do not have to rush and have a baby because there really is no perfect timing, you can also be single parent and still feel as if you got it all.  I guess it should be what you want and whenever you decide your ready!
